The trouble with attachment.

Bye bye, Favorite Puppy :(

I really should get used to my dad's being a breeder.

I just said goodbye to Favorite Puppy, one of our French bulldog Noelle's female pups. I was told not to name her otherwise I'll be too attached. Favorite Puppy was a name itself though.

It was love at first sight. As I carried her in my arms, she rested her head on my shoulder. I thought she was going to fall asleep right then and there but just a few seconds after I got her, she began licking my chin and as I tilted my head a bit lower to see her, she kissed me! And when I put her back where her brothers were, she moved towards me and reached for my hand with her little paw. And when my parents took me back to the apartment that day (and she and her brothers were in their cage already), I exclaimed "Bye, Favorite Puppy! I love you!". And she acknowledged by squealing.

From then on I just wished P40K was hell easier to raise so I could just buy her from my dad.

She was here again since Monday. But this time she wasn't just here to be checked out by someone else who was interested. She was finally going to be sold. So I lived each day with her as if it was going to be Friday the day after. Until Friday did come.

I didn't really show the buyer I was close to tears. I did say, however, how sweet she is and how easy it is to be attached to her. Hindi ka na siguro makakatulog mamaya, said the buyer.

But hey, business is business. I loved Favorite Puppy, but she just can't be called Favorite Puppy forever. Someone would be calling her Alavda (her name in the papers) already. And I'm sure she'll be in good hands since the one who bought her was a dog-lover anyway.

And so I counted and recounted the money, gave him a receipt, and handed him the puppy. But before they closed the gate, I patted her one last time and she gave me that kiss that made me fall in love with her in the first place.

Here's to another night of crying over a dog.
