Independence Day.

After 108 years of "independence", how far have we really gone? After all the blood, sweat, and tears shed, have we really bounced back?

If we are independent, why do we think so colonial? Why do we feel a certain kind of superiority when sporting imported goods, or why do we buy fake Coach bags instead of native woven bags? Why do we still think in binary opposites when in fact, it's the concept of degrees in the Filipino language that says a lot about how we are... or were.

Guess we've never had a taste of the real thing yet.

Gustung gusto ko pa namang tikman lasapin ang tunay na Kalayaan.

Kapit lang, Bayan ko.

I am looking forward to a more responsible, more independent me now that I've turned 18. Ein mentioned last night that I've matured (a bit), and I don't see any harm in living up to it. With great freedom comes great responsibility, yes.

I am making a pact to be more responsible with my finances and to be a responsible older sister to Ald who's now going to Claret. (Ald in the background as he reads this: "Shut up! Liaaaaaar!" Hoy, totohanan na 'to!) And as soon as I get my license, I promise to ensure the safety of all other drivers and passengers on the road. *laughs to self and makes the L-sign on forehead*

Hello, Independence. I just have to love you :)

And because no man, err, person, is an island, I will need to get a teensy-bit dependent.
